CHIP was found to be constitutively nuclear because it bound exclusively to DNA. CHIP is a DNA repair protein required for cell division for mitotic progression and cell cycle progression. This component of the mitotic machinery served as the only conserved chromatin component in forming the microtubule-coated structures called spindle poles.
