“Empowering Women’s Basketball: From Branding to Fan Engagement with the New York Liberty”
—————————- As an associate, I helped conduct a feasibility report for **a small women’s college** considering moving to a larger campus due to declining enrollment rates. We found a few interesting insights: First, many students felt inadequate compared to the competition as it related to their gender (most female college students Learn More not feeling strong enough to compete and intimidated by stronger, physically dominant male college counterparts in the school, sports teams and the local community). Secondly, despite the strong community interest in gender equity at our current school location, some prospective students are concerned about crime (both personal and from our college) making women feel vulnerable, especially those coming from safer, rural environments to urban areas. These revelations indicate a deeper social, behavioral, and economic shift that calls attention to gender inequality and raises safety concerns about urban living within educational institutions. Furthermore, they shed light on a growing desire for education that provides both academic success AND personalized, empowering growth that prioritizes students as individuals rather than individual competitors. Overall, the shift in attitudes and beliefs towards gender identity and personal safety in education has created challenges and opportunities for institutions focused on attracting diverse, motivated student bodies.

To set the foundation to better understand what’s about to unfold with our WNBA client team, I offer up some unique context that can also bring clarity and coherence on both an academic and a pragmatic level for us in this high stakes business game, or rather competitive league of professional female ball players vying for fans’ attention: Legal consulting and academia come at a great benefit to consulting and NBA sports management (just my honesty). As a lawyer with courtroom and litigation experience for over fifteen years, and an adjunct professor of business for six years, we both know and deal closely to manage business disputes. My background equips me with knowledge that can assist basketball franchise organizations navigate their teams through issues with contracts – players or otherwise, negotiate in general and have legal precedents for reference, especially during collective bargaining periods with players’ organizations like NBA player unions (CBA’s, etc.) to ensure the right representation in any deal and/or dispute we face or create (be these contracts with coaches or trade contracts).
